This year’s short course is sponsored by FOM Technologies and includes an opportunity to take part in a tour held at Georgia Tech College of Engineering at 1:00 PM following the short course. Included in the tour will be a demonstration of the pilot scale roll-to-roll equipment and tours of other labs and facilities. We encourage everyone interested in participating in the short course to join us for what will be an exciting tour.
Abstract:
The 22nd International Coating Sience and Technology Symposium offers a unique opportunity to see how coating science can benefit practitioners of the art of coating and drying. However, many practitioners have a hard time assessing scientific results and putting them to practical use. This short course provided basic context for understanding the kinds of results presented at the symposium. It includes a brief survey of common coating methods being discussed, a review of the physics of coating and drying and how that relates to the structures of the common theoretical approaches to modeling the coating and drying process.
Dr. E.J. (Ted) Lightfoot:
Ted Lightfoot spent 35 years with DuPont and DOW-Dupont making photographic film, solvent cast films, optical films and other proprietary developments. He was the first American to be named an Industrial Fellow at the University of MInnesota Coating Fundamentals program was a founding director of the ISCST as well as a founder and former leader of DuPont’s internal coating network. He retired from DuPOnt in 2019 and started Ted Lightfoot LLC, a consulting company in film casating, coating, drying, and laminating.
