The course modules cover web drying theory and practice from an applications perspective. Discussion includes thermal and mass transfer mechanisms and their impact on design and engineering of drying process equipment. General concepts of wet film solidification are presented with focus on convection and IR drying parameters determined from models and lab-scale work, and how these are applied in scale-up steps to industrial oven processes. The course helps to show how first principles in drying theory are applied in design and selection of oven hardware and control features.
